Former Telford & Wrekin Hockey Player David Goodfield has been selected to play for England in the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup in India. The World Cup takes place between 13th-29th January 2023.
The Surbiton midfielder, who began playing hockey for Telford & Wrekin HC’s junior academy, recently represented England during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, and during the recent FIH Pro League matches against Argentina and the Netherlands, has continued to impress head coach Paul Revington.
Goodfield made his senior England debut in 2017 against South Africa, and has since racked up 65 caps and 11 goals, but this will be his first World Cup. Since his debut for England, Goodfield has won Bronze medals at the 2017 Hockey World League Semi-Final, 2017 EuroHockey Championships, 2018 Commonwealth games and most recently a bronze at the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham. As well as international success, Goodfield has also enjoyed domestic success with Surbiton, having won the Men’s Hockey League three times in four years.
Englands No19 will face Wales, India and Spain in the group stages, with aims of going further than in 2018, where the squad came 4th overall.
