Chairman of Telford and Wrekin Hockey Club Gwynne Goodfield has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the King’s Birthday Honours List for his work in HMRC, saving taxpayer money in recruitment, and for his services in sport.
Gwynne has been working in HMRC for 46 years now, and for the last 20, he has been responsible for recruiting graduates. The Cabinet Office said Gwynne has made tax graduate recruitment in HMRC more sustainable and significantly more cost effective, reducing the cost per hire from £2,900 to £1,300, saving £175,000 in 2022 alone.
Gwynne has also been recognised for his work in sport, as Chairman for the Hockey club, as well as football coaching. Before getting involved with the hockey club, Gwynne was a coach with Randlay Football Club. As Chairman of Telford and Wrekin Hockey Club for the last 10 years, Gwynne has overseen a massive change in the club. In recent years, the club has undergone a massive transformation, with new facilities including a new pitch and floodlights, as well as our junior section growing into one of the biggest in Shropshire, with juniors going on to represent the club at all levels.
