Telford and Wrekin Hockey Club Secure Pitch Side Defibrillator

Telford and Wrekin Hockey Club have secured themselves a pitch-side defibrillator to upgrade their facility and improve their health and safety precautions.
Despite having a defibrillator at the Sports and Social Club merely 200 yards away, the hockey club thought that it was imperative that they had one pitch side in case of an emergency. After the 1st XI’s first game of the season away at Harborne there was a fixture that followed, during the warmup there was a serious medical incident which opened the eyes of everyone at the scene. Due to the quick response of those present, the player managed to receive the appropriate medical attention and is now thankfully recovering.
From this moment the club set out to ensure that should there ever be a serious medical incident, such as the one that was witnessed back in October at Telford and Wrekin, the appropriate medical equipment would be in place.
The big question was how the club was going to be able to fund the defibrillator and protective box, however, current 1st XI player and former captain Chris Heath purchased the equipment through his company ESH Trace Heating and kindly donated it to the club. Over the last month the clubs maintenance team sourced an electrical connection and installed the defibrillator inside the pitch.
Club Chairman Gwynne Goodfield said, “We are delighted to be able add the defibrillator to the hockey club. It upgrades the whole facility and ensures that we have all the appropriate health and safety tools should an emergency occur. I cannot thank Chris enough for the donation of the Defibrillator, it shows what a wonderful community and spirit that we have at the hockey club. We are also looking to offer training/awareness sessions soon"
