Mackenzie makes Scotland Commonwealth Squad

With the Commonwealth Games soon to be upon us, we are delighted to announce that former Telford and Wrekin Hockey Club player Callum Mackenzie has been selected for Scotland’s 18 man squad who will compete at Birmingham from the end of July and running into August.
The squad is headed by GB International Alan Forsyth who is playing in his fourth Commonwealth Games, whilst Mackenzie is making his first. Whilst Mackenzie left the club in 2016 to gain National League experience, as well as moving to University, the club has kept a close eye on his hockey journey since he first picked up a stick many years ago.
After spells at Cannock and Cardiff Met, Mackenzie is currently playing for Wimbledon in the National Premier League, which has no doubt helped his case in his selection.
The ‘Blue Sticks’ have a tough group which consists of current Commonwealth Champions Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan, which will be a provide a great opportunity for Scotland to impress at a home Commonwealth Games.
Men’s Club Captain Alan Parham said “Myself and the club have always kept a close on Callum’s progress after working with him as a junior. He was always extremely talented, but it is the effort and hard work that he puts into his game which has earned him this call-up. We are all very excited to see how Scotland and in particular Callum get on at the Commonwealth Games, and I even think some of his former teammates are going to watch some of his games.”
