Junior Training starts again!
Posted by Chris Nightingale on 25 March 2021
With two different lockdowns interrupting and playing havoc with the hockey season, we can’t wait to get our juniors back up to St George’s to get stick back on ball.
Despite the lockdown in November, we were still able to get most of our coaching sessions in just before Christmas, and with organised sport set to commence from the 29th March, this is the perfect opportunity to make up for sessions that we lost in January and February. These sessions will run through Easter and into the summer.
We are always open to new players that want to join the club, with further information on how to join HERE
The session times will be as follows.
6 – 7.20 pm - U8’s, U10’s and U12’s
7.30 – 9 pm - U14 and U16’s
More detail about training and Covid Guidence are in our Junior Training section found HERE
To find out more about what some of our players have been up to over the last few months, we have spoken to Josh and Eddie Sykes who play in our Under 14 and Under 12 age groups and are both also involved in the Shropshire AC programme.
What are you looking forward to most about getting back to hockey?
JS: I’m looking forward to getting fit again and just playing hockey
ES: I’m looking forward to getting back to training and playing some matches
What have you missed most about not being able to play hockey?
JS: I have missed having a good time with my friends
ES: I have missed my friends and everything about hockey
Is there anything that you have been doing at home to practise your skills?
JS: Yes, I have been doing some drills and shooting and hitting practise in the garden using a football goal and a couple of horse feed bad to target practise. I have also been trying to teach my Mum how to reverse!
ES: I have been doing some hitting in the garden with Josh and working on my shooting at goal
Is there anything that you want to learn once we get back on the pitch?
JS: I want to refresh my basics and learn some more 3D skills to use
ES: I want to learn everything!
Did you get anything hockey related for Christmas?
Both: Yes, we both got a new Y1 stick, a ball and a facemask each for short corners!
We look forward to seeing everyone back on the pitch on the 31st March!
