Telford and Wrekin Ladies moved three points clear at the top of Midlands Feeder League West, thanks to some determined defending and a hat-trick from Chez Lane. Playing against Sutton Coldfield 3, the Telford side took the lead in the first half when Lane drove into the D and fired the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. Telford and Wrekin increased their lead in the first minute of the second half when a short corner strike from Sue Hughes was deflected into the roof of the net by Lane. However, Sutton struck back immediately, also with a short corner, before drawing level with a goal from open play. Telford and Wrekin pressed hard in the remainder of the second half and, with only a minute of the game left, Lorna Burns played a ball across the D to Lane who calmly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the goal to secure a 3 – 2 victory. After the match captain Shirley Hasenauer said ‘ I was happy to see an improvement in our marking, which kept us in the game. We put in a great effort to fight back and take all three points and stretch our lead at the top of the table’. The ladies teams take a break from league action this week, with the first team having a non-league fixture against Wolverhampton.
