Match Report

Telford and Wrekin Ladies had to dig deep at the weekend to overcome a two goal deficit and clinch a 6 – 5 victory over local rivals Shrewsbury 2 in Midlands Feeder League West.

It was Shrewsbury who took an early lead after the Telford defence made a slow start to the game, but a quick reply from Lorna Burns levelled the scores.  By half-time the score was 3 – 3, after captain Shirley Hasenauer calmly converted two penalty strokes.  In the second half, Shrewsbury took a two goal lead before 13-year-old Lorna Mackenzie pulled one back for the Telford side.  An exciting last five minutes saw Telford and Wrekin pressing the Shrewsbury defence and being awarded a further two penalty strokes, both of which were again converted by Hasenauer.  ‘I’m extremely proud of the team’ said Hasenauer. ‘We kept our heads up, battled hard and never gave up’. This Saturday sees the team with an away match at Stratford upon Avon.
