Mixed Vets Vs Bloxridge Mixed Vets

Telford and Wrekin have entered a mixed team into the midlands SAGA masters league for the 22/23 season. This squad consists of elite Telford players from the Womens O35 and Mens O50s (ish) category.

The first game was away hosted by  Bloxridge (a mix of Bloxwich and Alridge players) at Lillishall.

With 3 player cry offs during the day we arrived with 10 plus our sideline manager Chris Davies. Luckily Ben Stevens was hanging around and was drafted into left back defence with instructions not to cross the halfway line! 

Telford got off to a confident start, pressing high and controlling the game through passing play. This paid off and Telford took an early lead with a lifted effort from Chris Nightingale smashed into the net followed by two other goals from Alan Brennan megging the keeper and a Chris Cousins deflection. Telford then realised that they weren’t as fit as they thought, and in particular our youngest centre midfield player began to suffer with the regret of training before the game.

The opposition took advantage of this to score and this send a previously composed Telford into a meltdown. At 3-3 it looked like Telford may have lost their edge.  The game was back on as Telford regained their composure after a stern talking to and found a second wind.

A combination of creative play and long balls from defence put the opposition back under pressure. Telford took advantage of this to score a further 2 goals from Chris N and James Stevens. 

The final score was 5-3 and most importantly, over a chip butty and a pint, plans were laid for the weeks fantasy league strategy and the possibility of a Halloween themed kit at the next game on 31st October. Will Telford be able to deliver? Spooky spectators are welcome!
