Match Report

Telford 4ths welcomed Newport 2nds on a sunny afternoon for their last game of the pre-season. Both teams started strong and possession was fairly even throughout the first half. This week saw the debut of Samuel Langford who impressed playing on each side of midfield. Telford's defence was once again resolute in keeping the opposition away from the D for large portions of the game. Distribution down the flanks started to unlock routes into the Newport defence and the Telford midfield started to press. The first goal would come towards the end of the first half. As the home team pressed on the Newport goal one attack saw the ball ricochet to Scott Marshall who hit the ball on the half volley, the shot took a deflection onto the post and Roger Marsh took an instinctive swing to hit the ball through the keeper's legs from the resulting deflection. Despite more attempts on the Newport goal in the first half the score would remain 1-0.

The second half saw Newport attempt to press on the Telford defence however Telford would punish Newport with rapid counter attacks. An end-to-end encounter gradually lifted into Telford gaining the lion's share of possession. Bradley Williams was called on to make several saves and denied the opposition attack a goal towards the end. A breakaway saw a one-on-one opportunity to equalise but Bradley made a tremendous save to boot the ball off the side of the pitch. Despite no more goals Telford were comfortable in victory and look forwards to the league season. Paul Cousins was the Man of the Match. At left back he was seldom passed and ran up and down the wing to support the attack, great distribution and fierce striker of the ball.
