Women's 3rd XI Vs Lichfield 6

The women’s 3’s travelled to Lichfield on a Sunday afternoon for a rearranged fixture. 

Lichfield came off the starting blocks strong shaking Telford for the first 10 minutes. Telford regained their composure and began the attack. Some lovely links in the middle to the right side to break up the defence. They fought hard coming back out and round trying different angles to press. A few balls making it down to the baseline where Eliza and Gayle were waiting but Litchfield were strong and denied any chances to begin with. A great ball from defence to the middle for Maggie was then played around two players and then received by Katie who beautifully got herself in the D along the baseline and the ball found the backboard from a tight angle.

Unfortunately this would be the only goal for Telford. The girls continued to fight with several shots on target. 2 even hitting the post and going in the opposite direction of the backboard. Short corners came and went with no conversions even if the umpire did take some time to use the whistle. Later in the second half, Ellie used her smooth skills to get into the D and had not one but two shots at goal with the 2nd shot bouncing back high but she recovered well and managed to get it across the line but the umpire disallowed it due to a previous foul. Lichfield goalkeeper was a force to be reckoned with throughout stopping a shots within inches of the line causing Telford to become frustrated. Litchfield then had their chances when annoyance levels were high, the defence line holding them to outside of the D and delivering strong to the middle of the field for progression and linking passes back. Some lovely teamwork displayed today lots of talking and 1 2’s all the way up the pitch. This should put Telford in good stead for the tough game next week against Finchfield at home.
