Match Report

This was the last game of the season for a team that were playing some of their best hockey and they did not disappoint! The game started tentatively with Telford almost trying too hard to score a goal, but the deadlock was finally broken with a short corner routine; Leanne Wright slipping the ball left, for Captain Sue Hughes to slot home. This seemed to calm Telford down and another well worked goal quickly followed. This goal involved some lovely one touch hockey, slicing the Burton defence apart, followed by inch perfect pass from midfielder Rachel Evans to Ellie Sutcliffe, who clinically put it away underneath the helpless, diving Burton keeper. Telford went into the half time break 2-0.

Telford started the second half with real purpose and aggression and continued from where they had left off. It wasn’t long before Ellie Sutcliffe bagged her second goal poaching fortuitously in the ‘D’. Telford’s dominance led to some great link up play between Logan Mckinnon and Mia Price, who went on to score Telford’s fourth goal with a well taken close range finish.

Burton struggled to keep the rampant Telford side at bay and Bella Hart took full advantage of this with a well-executed goal, taking the score to 5-0. Telford didn’t relent and camped themselves in the Burton half, continuing to apply the pressure on their defence. It wasn’t long before Burton finally crumbled again, but his time it was Logan McKinnon running at pace, who struck the ball firmly from the top of the ‘D’, completely nutmegging the Burton keeper! With only a matter of seconds left, Telford sealed an already convincing win, with another goal from the inform scorer Ellie Sutcliffe, taking her tally to a well-deserved hat-trick.
Final score 7-0.  A fantastic team effort and great game to end a very successful season.

End of season:
Yet again for the second season in succession, Telford Ladies 2s have narrowly missed out on promotion by just 1 point, as only one team goes up in the Division 3 West. However, they ladies can hold their heads up high, as they were undefeated against the promoted side North Staffs, having beaten and drawn against them in the league. Not only did Telford Ladies 2s come extremely close again, they were also the second highest goal scoring team. A special mention must also go to the squad members, who were not playing in the last game; the season has consisted of 20 games and every single member of the squad has played an integral part in getting the team to where it has finished in the league. The ‘whole squad’ should be extremely proud of their input throughout the season.

Well done and a massive THANK YOU.
