This was always going be a closely contested game for Telford, against a tough team, who were also fighting for a top spot in the league.
The game started at a frantic pace, with both teams creating chances. However, Wolves took the lead with a scrappy goal mouth scramble. Telford responded quickly with a well worked move, finished off with an excellent reverse stick shot from the returning ever reliable goal scorer (after weeks of absence due to work commitments) Christine Keyser, to level the score. As the game progressed Telford went to sleep, which Wolves exploited, scoring a scrappy goal and regaining the advantage. However, Telford reacted quickly gaining a penalty corner, which didn’t go to plan but effectively improvised to be calmly finished off by Logan McKinnon, continuing her rich vein of form, scoring 3 in 3 games levelling, the scores 2-2 going into the interval.
After the break, Telford came out aggressively, which paid off with a quick ball from Sue Hughes in midfield, through to Christine, who remained composed and superbly slotted the ball away, putting Telford ahead again 3-2.
In a game that ebbed and flowed, it was never going to be predictable. Wolves were able to capitalise on some very fortuitous decisions (which could have gone either way) and were awarded the equalising goal after another goal mouth scramble!
This seemed to lift the Telford players, who didn’t give up and played with more determination and digging deep deservedly got the final goal of the match to take all three points! Yet again, it was another well finished diving goal from the hat trick scorer Christine Keyser.
Final score 4-3 to Telford. Telford’s Man of the Match was awarded to Sandra Patterson for her solid defensive play.
Telford have a tough top of league clash away at Lichfield on Saturday 2:45pm push off.
