Match Report

This was always going to be a tough game, and the natural elements, lashing down rain, didn’t make this fixture any easier! Telford started the game with good intensity and dominated the half, but just couldn’t convert their chances. It’s fair to say that Leek had the rub of the green, with a lot of 50/50 umpiring decisions going their way and Telford only been given one short corner in the first half!
Telford resumed the second half in the same vein, creating chances in abundance, but again they all went begging. As the game progressed, the home advantage worked in Leek’s favour and decisions seemed to go their way, with  seven penalty corners been given back to back. Telford remained strong, until a free hit was awarded to Leek on the 25, with only five minutes to go. From this, a  Leek player burst into the D, taking a strike that was deflected off a Telford player’s stick, spiralling helplessly over the goalkeeper’s Penny Rushton’s head! A very flukey goal, that stunned Telford and shocked a somewhat fortuitous Leek!
Unfortunately for Telford, the game finished too soon as they continued to create chances, with the best one falling to Jen Moffat, who hit a blistering shot just missing the top right corner of the goal! This was the final attempt for Telford and the score finished 1-0 to Leek.
The man of match was closely contested, with only one vote between three players, but it was deservedly awarded to Logan McKinnon.
