Match Report

Pinocchio here, here to tell you a fairytale from lands away in a place called Far, Far Away (but not really far). We travelled to Solihull with our pitchforks at the ready, although we were given the boys changing rooms (I’m a really boy, remember!) and spirits were dampened slightly by the smell of the bogs (literally), we remained optimistic going into the game. We knew the wicked witches of Solihull Blossomfield would be tough, with all of their cackling and spells, but that didn’t stop Shrek (Gary) from giving us a strong prep talk in the bogs. We strutted out of the smell bog and onto the sand, I mean pitch, and got started.

We had some excellent linking play from Grace and Hattie on the right side, which allowed Hattie to move up the pitch with Lorna and Chez up top. We were unlucky to not score first, but it was Solihull who got the first advantage with the scoring. We carried on fighting, with fires in our belly’s, we went in search of a goal! Izzy showed those witches who had the fairest (and best) skills in all the land, and outdid not one, not two, but THREE midfield players to get the ball wide and back up to attack. Logan got the finishing touch from a powerful pass across the face of goal, the score was 1-1 as we waved goodbye to the first half.

Shrek gave us all another fairytale talk to inspire us, we knew we had to defeat these. But, how the tables turned. Oh dear, we had a strong off start but Solihull were the ones who were able to finish their goals. As the clock ran down, the score was 2-1 to Solihull. We had chances, but we couldn’t get the ball in the net. Maybe the witches cased a spell on us? Solihull broke through of the left line, with all of the body and speed, they pushed Jess out of the way and found a player in the circle. I (Pinocchio) tried to get the ball, but Solihull hit it right back at me like a cricket ball, up in the air and slammed into the backboard. 3-1… Izzy kept the skills up, outdoing more witches and getting the ball high, we had more chances but the spells were too strong. The game finished 4-1, “we’ll get them back next season” said Shrek.

Man of the Match was Izzy with her silky smooth skills, leaving me, Pinocchio (Charlotte) as DOD (to keep it PG, I’ll say puppet of the day). Next week we welcome Edgbaston to our swamp!
