Match Report

Telford hosted Leicester City 2s at their swap bright and early.
After a solid warm up and finding out Leicester only had 10 men, Telford turned it up a gear and were raring to go.

Telford had most of the possession in the first 15 minutes, playing high up the pitch as Leicester sat back at a half court press. This was no challenge for Telford as the team worked well to eliminate press lines and move the ball nicely up the pitch. Even with one player more, Telford found themselves on the back foot with some break ins into the D by Leicester, saved well by keeper Charlotte who dominated her D.

With lots of passes finding their way off the side and back line, and lots of goal scoring opportunities, Telford were finally able to open up the score line with an excellent pass from the 25 into the attacking D from Meg Lancaster, who found Chez allowing her to slap the ball first time which trickled under the keepers legs, 1-0.

Telford pressed hard keeping the ball in the attacking half to then be rewarded with a short corner. A left switch to Meg who reverse slapped the ball, saved by the keeper, only for Katie Parsons to take the rebound and slap the ball first time, vibrating the back board, making it her first goal for Telford and 2-0 to the girls.

Half time- 2-0 Telford

As the second half approached, Telford were put under pressure by Leicester who pressed higher. Leicester with a few D entries and short corners became no problem for Telfords defence who defended well to get the ball out to the midfield. Some excellent skills by Izzy Moore in the middle of the pitch, showing her soft and quick hands to eliminate player after player,  all in her pocket. Linking up well with Lucy Brown who again dug deep and picked some great tackles breaking down play and gaining possession. Leicester kept fighting hard but Telford were linking up well and passing quickly, after Jodie Lane received a ball on the base line, flicking it over the keeper for Lorna Burns to tap in on back post, diving into the shot, 3-0.

With Telford being a man up, they took this to their advantage by transferring the ball well across the back and making use of the space. A ball from the middle received by Grace Flynn on the right hand side by the 25 allowed her to drive into space, across the baseline to pull it back and find a Leicester foot, in which Kathryn converted a short corner shot off top to take the score line to 4-0, deflecting off a defenders stick into the roof of the net.

After some excellent link up play, Lorna burns received a base line pass, carrying and having a shot hitting the side board to make the score line 5-0.

An excellent slap from Lucy Brown found Lorna Burns un marked back post who effortlessly slotted the ball away to make it 6-0.

Telford were in extreme high spirits and were still giving 100% to continue their excellent play and converting their goal scoring opportunities.

After a short corner won by Lorna, Kathryn again slotted home with a powerful hit at goal,  to finish the score line at 7-0, an excellent and well deserved win, starting the day off well, with still plenty of time to make some waffles.

Telford travel to Bromsgrove next weekend to take on top of the table, hopefully they’ll be singing livin la Vida loca later on, continuing their winning streak and bringing home the 3 points.
