Match Report

Telford travelled to Loughborough far far away for an early start. Well it wasn’t all fun and making waffles, lots of “are we there yet”, and with puss in boots breaking down, leaving her stranded at the services, the team were on their way with a man down, until, Gary Stacey made a U turn to salvage his final team member #shrektotherescue.

A slow warm up with only 5 balls didn’t leave Telford very prepared for the push back, and with lots of illnesses within the team it was a slow start for Telford, but some positive words of wisdom from Telfords captain Kathryn, the team were raring to go. Loughborough started with a high and aggressive press applying pressure to the Telford defence in the first few minutes, dominating the game, Telford matched this intensity and remained resilient under pressure. After some unfortunate decisions from the get go, the game was breaking down with little control, resulting in frustration from some of the Telford players. After a scramble defence and a short corner awarded,

Telford conceded after Loughborough delivered a ball to the back post which deflected to the top of the net. 1-0. A 50-50 5 minutes, Loughborough made a counter attack with a reverse shot on goal (back stick) finding a player again on back post to slot the ball in. An odd call made by the umpires to award the goal left Telford very frustrated. 2-0. With some excellent counter attacking and link up play, Telford created many chances for goal scoring opportunities, competing hard. After some excellent transferring round the back by the Telford defence, Kathryn and Jess linked up well to fire a ball into the attacking D, finding Chez who used her silky skills, to have a terrific shot on goal, saved well by the keeper.

Telford held their own with again some excellent opportunities on goal, a reverse stick shot by Jodie Lane was cleared by the keeper. A quick free hit taken, left Telford on the back foot and another goal conceded. Going into half time 3-0 down.

A tactical change by Gary to compact the middle of the pitch and force the Loughborough midfields out wide played well in Telfords favour as they dominated the second half. As the game progressed some decisions found both teams very frustrated. A counter attack by Telford found Mia Price in the D to slot the ball in, 3-1, that’ll do donkey, that’ll do. Telford continued to dominate the game, with some excellent break down play to regain possession and counter attack aggressively.

Loughborough found themselves in a 1 on 1 with the Telford keeper Charlotte, where they delivered to take the score line to 4-1. Telford held their own fighting hard to the final whistle, but with some scramble defence in the D on the goal line, Loughborough found the net to finish the game 5-1. Telford battled hard throughout and showed some excellent play and many positives even after a slow and unlucky start to the day.

Telford host Birmingham uni 3s next week back at their swamp to hopefully get the 3 points, so grab your torch and pitchforks and come and cheer us on.
