That’ll do donkey, That’ll do

The women’s 1st XI set off to Lichfield for the beginning of what was to be an intriguing season. As the team set with off with five new debuts plus the return of one of the famous Pennell twins, we knew this game was going to be interesting with both teams fighting for the first three points of the 22/23 season. It was Telford who took the lead at half time with a reverse hit rocket from Jodie Lane and a penalty corner conversion from Kathryn Sinclair. This lead did not stop the Lichfield team who took an early goal from a well-executed reverse. Telford soon replied as Lorna Burns displayed her skills up the pitch putting the Lichfield player in her back pocket and passing a ball into Chez Lane which was smashed into the back of the net only as expected. Great link up playsfrom Jess Maddocks and debut Katie Parsons aided Telford to fly past Lichfield with another debut Lucy Brown providing a vital penalty corner win which was capitalised by Kathryn Sinclair making it 4-1. Grace Flynn was able to convert a final penalty corner making the final score a delightful 5-1 victory for Telford. This was a superb first game for the women especially with the new youthful team showing a promising and strong performance. A great show from the debuts who portrayed an all-star start with their great skill and work rate throughout the game fitting right into Telford’s game play. It is to give a special mention and good luck to Lorna Burns who is setting of to South Africa to represent England in the O45 World Cup.

Telford Woman are set to play Tamworth at our swamp which will be another hopeful three points to add to the bag.
