Match Report

Telford travelled to Shrewsbury with the aim of getting revenge from the reverse fixture they lost in the first half of the season.

The 5ths welcomed Roger for his first appearance in the team & we very much were looking forward to Coler having some competition for goals!

Minutes into the game Aaron made a run down the right flank and hit it across the D and into Alan who slapped the ball to make it 1-0.

Telford had majority of the possession for the first 15 minutes but a swift counter saw Shrewsbury level the score.

Coler had a few chances in the first half but must’ve felt the pressure of Roger in the team as he put them wide!

Seconds before the half time whistle Shrewsbury scored against the run of play to lead at the break.

Although the score didn’t reflect it there was good performances by Telford in the first half - Especially from Freddie who looked unbeatable at left defence & Alan who never stopped running.

Captain Ewan made some strong points at half time and stated what was missing was what we did in the first 5 minutes. Being direct, driving the ball into or just outside the D and hitting it towards goal as this was bound to create opportunities, like the one we scored from. Ewan wanted to come away from the game talking about how we executed exactly what we spoke about.

A slight tactical tweak was made which saw Roger sit deeper up top and occupy the halfway line position. This allowed Alan & Ewan to have more space to make runs behind the defence.

While Shrewsbury were in possession Ewan sneakily lurked behind a defender and as they were receiving a pass he sprinted to get ahead and latched onto the ball. He released to Roger who came from deep, Roger shot through the oncoming keepers legs but it hit the post! However Ewan continued his run and had an easy tap-in to an open goal (Roger claimed this was a pass).

About 10 minutes was left on the clock and Telford were running the show, however like the first half Shrewsbury managed to Nick a goal against the play. Telford however kept pushing forward and gained a short corner from a pass outside the D which hit a Shrewsbury foot inside, with just a few minutes left to play.

Throughout the game Roger wasn’t able to display his power that he had in his locker, therefore the Telford attack decided to use this as a surprise advantage. John H collected the injection and slipped it left to Roger who smashed it into the far corner! 3-3!

Unfortunately the whistle went and Telford couldn’t continue their momentum. Overall a draw was probably fair but 5/10 more minutes and Telford could’ve definitely won.

M.O.M was between Freddie due to an unreal defensive performance and showed his passing skills to develop the Telford attack forward & Alan because of his excellent work rate and hunger to create as many opportunities as possible. Alan however won the award.
