Match Report

Telford hosted Newport in what they knew would be a tough fixture.

From the get go Telford defended strong and Newport struggled to get any shot past Alex in goal.

Telford found themselves with a few opportunities at the other end. The most noticeable one being when a Newport defender mistimed an interception and Tom K latched onto the ball and found Jack in lots of space. Jack carried and ran well with the ball into the D, he spotted Ewan lurking around the keeper but was unable to get it past the 2 Newport remaining Newport defenders.

Through out whole half Newport became frustrated with the impressive performance from Alex who made save after save. However Newport gained a short corner and the top D player received the injection but mistimed it and it went behind him. He recovered the ball and passed it right. They then hoofed a hopeful ball into the D and somehow found a Newport stick which deflected in.

1-0 Down.

Half time came and we knew we were defending well, however it seemed that any 50/50 we made it or pass forward Newport got the better of.

2nd half begun much like the first. Telford defending strong (much to the consistency of Alex) and Newport struggled to extend their lead.

Mid way through the 2nd half a chance opened itself for Telford. A ball was played forward and the Telford attacker was fouled inside the D. The umpire blew the whistle before realising advantage would’ve meant Jack, who found the loose ball, had a goal scoring opportunity. A tough call for Jack & the team but an understandable and fair decision from the Telford Umpires.

With about 10 minutes left in the 2nd half Newport again found themselves with a short corner. After a few attempts of passing it around the Telford defence and it not working, they resulted in going back to basics and hitting it from the top of the D. And the basics worked as Alex couldn’t see past one of the defenders runs and it went past him mid-air and into Brent’s stick, who unfortunately couldn’t keep it out.

This deflated Telford as we were working closer to pulling one back. Not long after Newport scored a 3rd goal, very similar to the bobbled short corner they scored but in open play.

Full time.

Despite the result Telford can be proud with how they defended as we have to remember, this was a Club’s 2nd team we played against.

M.O.M was awarded to Alex for his phenomenal performance and countless saves in goal.
