Men's 5th XI Vs Wolves & Tett 4

Telford marked their first home game of the second half of the season against Wolv & Tett 4ths - Not only would this game see snow on the sidelines, players finger tips on the brink of frostbite but also about 5 balls break due to the cold!

Telford started off with a high press but found themselves leaving gaps behind which saw the opposition have numerous chances. However Alex wasn’t having any of it and swept up all the incoming balls and blocked all the shots.

Pip after being subbed noticed a key role in the oppositions play and that their #15 would receive the ball deep and make late runs into the D that wasn’t being picked up. A slight tactical change was made and John H picked up his marking boots and started putting him in his pocket.

Midway through the first half Telford found themselves on the break and John H was driving with the ball. He looked up and saw Ewan in his trademark position - Infront of the keeper ready for the deflection. John hits the ball into the D, Ewan gives it a slight angle change and it goes straight past the keeper! …. But it hits the post! And back into okay infront of Coler. However Coler shot is met with 2 opposition sticks and the ball stays stationary before being cleared away.

Not long before the half was due to end Telford gained a short corner. Alan injected it to John H at the top of the D, who slipped it right to Ewan, who then slipped it back to John. John then shot and scored! After many short corners this season, it seems as Telford are finding their grove as they score their 2nd short corner in 3 games (both by John H!).

The half came to an end and Telford looked to replicate their good performance in the 2nd half.

Another tactical change was made which saw Ewan drop deeper to support John H with his Man Marking and the defence of ST, Pip, Brent, Jacob & Freddie.

More chances went in Telford’s favour, with Abraham, Seth & Alan having shots either just miss or the keeper making good saves.

Coler had a notable short corner hit with some power but unfortunately just wide! 

Telford dominated possession in this half and any counter attacks were quickly put to bed. 

John H saw himself receive a green card because of hitting the ball after it touched his foot (or from a foul, I can’t remember to be totally honest) but he hit it before the whistle was blown! Despite Telford querying the call, the decision stood.

With about 10 minutes to go a ball was played from the left of Telford’s defence into the D and Ewan attempted to control it, stick up on the reverse, however he mistimed it and it went straight past him. Ewan attempted to regain control of the ball but unfortunately controlled it past Alex and into the path of the oppositions striker!

They made it 1-1 and the team spurred on and remembered that we’ve scored and won later than this! More attacks came from Telford and even more pressure too. However despite these efforts the time got closer and closer to the end, before it was the end.

Lots of positives can be taken from this game. On another day it could’ve been a win and another could’ve been a loss. However we continue forward and will use this game as a learning curb to ensure we get the full points on offer.
