Match Report

Having already secured promotion and had a week off due to the weather, Telford 4ths hosted Old Wulfs at St Georges in what started off as glorious sunshine but ended in torrential rain. The weather above accurately reflecting the hockey on the pitch.

Telford dominated the first half and took the lead within 10 minutes. Josh Sykes feeding the ball to Ryan Dymond-Link who slotted past the Old Wulfs keeper. 5 minutes later Conor Ashbridge doubled the score with a cheeky reverse shot which went through the keepers legs. Chances came thick and fast but after the second goal went in the Old Wulfs keeper was determined to not make more mistakes. A string of quality saves keeping his side in it and the Telford attack at bay. A dry pitch led to quite a slow game pace and from another good save everyone seemed to slow down and watch the ball travel away from goal. Ryan reacting fastest to gather possession and score another. The 4th team's 100th goal of the season. The 4th goal was an absolute rocket from George Pittson, already with 2 assists in the game. The keeper had no chance at stopping that shot and that gave Telford a comfortable 4-0 half time lead. The only down side in an otherwise quality first half was a serious back injury to captain Tom Hurst which kept him on the sidelines for the rest of the game.

Telford started strongly in the second half but it was Old Wulfs who scored first, and then again and again. Telford defending poorly as a team unit, stopping for whistles that were expected but never came and generally letting Old Wulfs dominate the play down the centre of the pitch. Some unlucky deflections and missed feet meant the score should have been different but that's how sport goes sometimes. With 10 minutes to go in the 2nd half Old Wulfs completed their come back scoring their 4th goal and despite relentless pressure after, Telford couldn't find a winner.
4-4 the final score. Telford now need to win all remaining games and hope others drop points twice in order to have any chance of winning the league.
Another draw that goes down on the list of "what might have been".

Man of the Match was George Pittson for his rocket of a goal and two assists.
