Match Report

Telford men's 4ths travelled down the M54 to face Wolverhampton and Tettenhall this weekend at Aldersley Stadium. The team looked rested and reinvigorated after the half term break and after the run of four matches across nine days.

Despite being the much better side, Telford didn't manage to score until the twentieth minute with Eddie Sykes, making his adult hockey debut, feeding the ball across the D for Conor Ashbridge to slap the ball home. Conor picked up a second goal ten minutes later this time the assist from Josh Sykes.
Wolverhampton offered very little in the way of attacking threat, however, a big hit through ball managed to find a gap in the white wall shortly after for their first and only goal.
A hefty challenge on Josh Sykes, initially a penalty corner before the umpires upgraded to a penalty stroke, was expertly buried in the goal by captain Tom Hurst.
3-1 up at half time.
A classic 4th team trait is to take a narrow half time lead and to keep applying constant pressure for the remaining 35 minutes. A lot of teams capitulate (a new word most of the youngsters learned today) under the onslaught and give up plenty of goals, today was no exception.
Eddie bagged his first goal for the 4ths with brother Josh again acting as provider before a powerful run from Tom and a great leave from Josh Carr-Yetzes led to a cheeky deflection from Josh Sykes for Telford's 5th goal.
Wolverhampton pushed and pushed to try and drag themselves back into the game and had a number of strong chances, repelled even more strongly by Tom Cornwell in goal with some excellent saves.
Goal number 6 came with about 10 minutes to go, Josh Sykes with yet another assist allowing Conor to complete his hat trick.
6-1 the final score.

Man of the Match: Eddie Sykes - a great debut performance, and looks to be a great addition to the squad for the rest of the season.
