Match Report

Telford fourths welcomed Lichfield sixths to Saint Georges’ on a mild December midday. Telford dominated from the start. Harry Gough returning to the fourth team had a goal disallowed in the fourth minute. In the seventh minute Harry received the ball right of centre and in between the twenty-three and the halfway line, he sent the ball to Roger Marsh in between the P spot and the top of the D, Roger hit the ball past the keeper into the net. Harry then stole the ball off Lichfield on their pushback and made his way into left D where he hit the ball bottom left to give Telford their second of the day. In the fifteenth minute Joshua Sykes was wide left on the Lichfield twenty-three when he sent the ball to George Pittson. George took the ball past a defender and into the top D where he hit bottom right past the Lichfield keeper.

The eighteenth minute saw Alan Brannen progress into the right of D where he setup Josh Sykes for a tap in and his second of the match. Matthew Cousins ventured down the right flank and into the D in the twenty-sixth minute, before sending the ball across to Josh on the right of the goal. Josh had a shot saved before squeezing the ball through the keeper and about two inches over the line for the fifth goal. Four minutes before half time, Alan again came in from the right taking two attempts to setup Roger for a small volley and a six-nil halftime lead.

Lichfield started strong in the second half and had several short corners in a row at one point. Bradley Williams made a great save when the Lichfield forward broke free for a close shot at goal but Bradleys outstretched right foot saved his clean sheet. Roger set Harry up in the fourty-third minute. A pass from the right baseline saw Harry finish into the right of the goal. Another Harry Gough goal was self-made as he again took the ball off the Lichfield defence with another powerful strike eluding the goalie into the bottom left. George Pittson set Roger up in the fourty-ninth minute executing a pass from in between halfway and the twenty-Three to Roger just inside the left shoulder of the D. Roger stopped the ball and took an age before deciding to smack the ball into the bottom left corner. Minute fifty-five and Harry Gough worked hard into the right D sending the ball across to James Stevens to slap in for Telfords’ tenth.

In the fifty-eighth minute Chris Cousins injected and Roger Marsh stopped and hit bottom left through the diving keepers stick. The sixty-second minute saw George Pittson take the ball into the D through a couple of defenders and then release a slow shot around the keeper who took George to ground. The ball trickled to goal and was set to be stopped by a defender before Josh poked it over the line to complete his hattrick. In the sixty-fourth minute the hard-working Alan Brannen was rewarded with his third assist as he set-up Chris Cousins to flick the ball into the netting in the left of the goal.

Man of the Match was awarded to Matt Cousins for his hard work down the right as he defended and assisted the attack with some awesome dribbles and hard passes.
