Match Report

Telford and Wrekin fourths avoided the rain as they welcomed Leek sixths to St. Georges’. Both teams were fairly evenly matched from the start with the majority of play taking place in the midfield. Several probing attacks from each team struggled to find a decisive pass until Leek broke the deadlock in the fifteenth minute. Leek found one of their forwards left of goal who hit a reverse shot through Bradley Williams who felt he should have done better. Telford equalised in the twenty-fifth minute. An attack down the right by Matthew Cousins ended with a pass just outside the top left of the D. George Pittson managed to grab the ball as a defender tried to intercept. Inside one defender, outside the next and into the D, George placed a shot across the keeper into the bottom right of the goal. Honours even into half-time.

Telford started the second half with some silly mistakes and five minutes after the break Leek scored their second of the match. A pass found a Leek forward atop the D and as he trickled a shot to goal, Bradley forgot to close his legs whilst attempting to close down the player and the away team were ahead. Ten minutes later Telford would equalise in the fiftieth minute. A Kieran Mountford pass to Scott Marshall outside the Leek twenty-three found its way into the top right of the D. Roger Marsh ran out from goal to control and thump the ball on the turn, into the bottom right-hand corner passed the diving Leek keeper. The last twenty minutes saw Leek overload at the back. The game was played mostly in midfield until the end as both teams once more struggled to find inroads to the D. The last bit of excitement saw Chris Cousins react strongly to an illegal Leek challenge for which he received a green card in the sixty-sixth minute. The game finished a draw.

Kieran Barclay was awarded the Man of the Match for some vital tackles, tight marking and smart decision making.
