Match Report

Telford and Wrekin fourths managed to avoid the rain on a damp overcast afternoon as they welcomed Wolverhampton and Tettenhall thirds to Saint Georges’. Telford assumed control from the start. W & T found little joy in attacking the Telford defence and were met with rapid counter attacks. Telford were constantly probing the opposition defence and gradually creating some decent opportunities. In the fifteenth minute the returning Archie Jones received the ball on the far left of the halfway line and sent the ball into the top left corner for the awaiting Roger Marsh. Roger found Will Thompson waiting just outside the D and Will sent the ball goalward for Roger to deflect into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The second goal was also for Telford, in the twentieth minute. Thomas Keeble making his debut for the fourths received the ball on the baseline in the far right of the D, after some great passing from the advancing midfield. Tom sent the ball across the face of goal which the keeper intercepted, a quick reaction left-handed reverse from Roger was unstoppable at close range. In the thirty-second minute Telford went three nil up. Another measured attack saw Will Assist Tom via a neat pass in the top left of the D. Tom flicked the ball precisely into the bottom right corner which seemed to catch the opposition keeper off-guard via its accuracy. Unfortunately, in minute thirty-four W & T scored their only goal of the game. A Chris Cousins mis-pass from left side-line inside his own twenty-five would gift the opposition a free shot which managed to just beat the helpless Bradley Williams.

The second half was dominated by Telford. After trialling the W & T defence from the whistle Telford would score in minute thirty-seven. The constant attack ending with Will sending the ball from the top of the D straight to George Pittson waiting just right of the goal on the baseline. George somehow managed to squeeze the ball in between the keeper and the post. A lot of attacks from Telford were starting to ware down W & T who were soon receiving cards for certain individuals trying to deny every decision given to Telford. A short corner routine from Chris Cousins to Roger Marsh was dispatched into the bottom left in the fourty-ninth minute.

Some of W & T were now starting to try and wind down the clock by time-wasting with the resounding loss proving too much for one particular player, who was now starting to upset even his own teammates. Telford would compound his woes by scoring once more in the sixtieth minute. Archie cutting in from the right to find Will Thompson stood unmarked atop the D. Will dispatched into the bottom right of the goal.

Will Thompson was given man of the match for his ability to find space, move with the ball and pick out a decisive pass. Thanks to Ben Stevens and Thomas Hurst for umpiring.
