Match Report

Telford 4ths hosted Bloxwich for their first home game of the league season on a predominantly sunny Saturday afternoon. The away team saw the lion's share of the early possession as Telford struggled to keep possession and move the ball out of their own half. The first breakaway by Telford saw them earn a short corner. Josh Carr-Yetzes received the ball and assisted Scott Marshall who drove hard and low past the routed Bloxwich keeper. After an early lead Telford still struggled to control the game and Bloxwich pressed hard on the Telford defence. A Bloxwich short corner routine would provide the next goal of the game. A static Telford defence watched on as the receiver walked right up to the Telford goal to calmly slot in past a helpless Bradley Williams.

As the first half progressed Telford continued to earn short corners on the counter. 5 minutes before half time Telford would regain the lead. A sloppy routine would see Scott Marshall have a shot loop up off the keeper, Scott swung and just about connected with the ball enough to send it to Chris Cousins who precisely sent the ball over the keeper into the net. Bloxwich were unhappy the goal stood having missed the slight connection from Scott and insisted this was dangerous play as Scott's stick had made a soft connection with a defender. Arguing saw the Bloxwich keeper receive a yellow. Just before half time Scott passed the ball to Josh CY just inside his own half. A mazy run by Josh CY ended in a reverse stick shot from the top of the opposition D and into the unguarded net.

The second half saw Telford gain more possession than the first although Bloxwich continued to attack the Telford goal. Bradley Williams made a string of fine saves to deny the opposition, this combined with some poor finishing meant the hosts would not concede again in this fixture. Indeed, it was Telford who saw the best of the opportunities once more in the second half. 15 minutes from the end a Telford attack would see the ball given to James Stevens in front of goal. An attempt to lift over the keeper was well blocked back at James who this time moved the ball around the back of the Bloxwich keeper to finish on his reverse. The game would finish 4-1 to Telford.

Josh Carr-Yetzes was awarded Man of the Match for a strong versatile performance with decent distribution and rewarded with an assist and a goal.
