Men's 4th XI Vs Stone 4

Telford 4ths travelled to Stone 4ths for their first league game of the season on an overcast but pleasant afternoon. Telford were on the front foot from the off. Although Stone breached the Telford 23 metre line, they would seldom find route into the D. The away team however were quickly into the opposition D and forcing early short corners. The second short off the game saw the eventual shot parried into the air toward the p spot first to react was Conor Ashbridge and Telford took an early lead. 5 minutes later Joshua Sykes found Roger Marsh at the top of the D unmarked. A pathetic lob shot to the keepers' midriff was returned at speed, Roger controlled and smashed through the keeper into the bottom corner.

Josh Carr-Yetzes switched to centre midfield and started to combine with Josh Sykes upfront. Josh CY setting up Josh S who delicately scooped over the onrushing keeper for his first of the match. A few minutes later they would combine again. This time Josh S hitting into the corner past the Stone keeper. For the last goal of the half Roger received the ball with back to goal and eventually powered a shot just wide of goal, luckily Will Thompson had taken position on the post and he somehow managed to squeeze the ball past the last defenders stick and just over the line.

The second half started much as the first. Tremendous credit must be given for the way Telford left keeper Bradley Williams with very little to do - only a couple of touches all game. Not long into the second half George Pittson skilfully distributed to Will Thompson, who with work to do managed to shoot past the Stone keeper for his second of the game. 10 minutes later Telford would score their 7th. Scott Marshall hit the ball into the D and Roger achieved a somewhat lucky deflection to Josh S who controlled and smartly hit through the awaiting keeper. A short corner routine for Telford would end in an illegal block on the line. Roger took the awarded flick and placed the ball into the net.

The final goal of the game would also go to Telford. The third of the Josh CY to Josh S partnership. After Josh CY had worked the ball to Josh S, his shot slowly but surely squeezed under the keeper to earn him his fourth goal of the game. Unanimously therefore, Josh S was voted as Man of the Match by all his teammates. Josh S was skilful throughout, dribbling through the Stone defence, great distribution and a natural talent for scoring goals. A powerful start to the league season for Telford 4ths. More to come!
