Match Report

Telford’s Men’s 3’s travelled away to Shrewsbury with a 14 man squad, with the changes from the Barford trip being the return of Andrew Lloyd, Sahib Dhanjal and Jon Woodrow with Roman Randell injured.
Telford started the game holding off pressure from Shrewsbury, with some quick breaks creating chances for the visitors. Shrewsbury went 2 goals up, before Andrew Lloyd brought back a goal for Telford. The ball got played out wide to the run of Ben Stevens, who then found Lloyd in space at the top of the circle, and on his second attempt, smashed his reverse into the side netting of the goal.
The score remained 2-1 until half time, and an encouraging display from Telford, with some great team moves creating plenty of chances but no more goals in the first 35 minutes. Captain Chris Nightingale and Moet both had encouraging words for the team, and the team were ready to go out and fight for the three points.
Shrewsbury got the game rolling again, and it was Telford who got their equaliser after around 15 minutes. Another great team move, with the ball played out from the back, finding its way up to Matt Fennell-Fox, who was making his trademark run out wide. Picking the ball up on Shrewsbury 23, Fennell-Fox held the ball up, allowing Dhanjal to run past him, with Fennell-Fox knocking the ball around his defender. Dhanjal drove into the ‘D’ and unleashed a powerful reverse, finally making contact with the ball and firing it past the Shrewsbury ‘keeper.
With the score now level, Telford tried to keep the pressure on Shrewsbury, driving forward on the counter attack multiple times. However none resulted in goals, with one attack being halted after Josh Carr-Yetzes trying to carry the ball in the air, but carrying it straight over the sideline. Despite going down to 10 men briefly after a yellow card for Ben Edwards, Telford kept working Shrewsbury’s defence.
Telford managed to win their first short corner of the game, but this was cleared out by Shrewsbury’s defence, before it was picked up again by Stevens, who carried the ball forwards towards the circle, finding Glynn Summerhayes near the penalty spot. Summerhayes flicked the ball onto his defenders foot, winning another penalty corner for the away side. This corner was dispatched by Dhanjal, the injection from Moet being slipped right to Lloyd, finding Dhanjal who scored his second of the game.
Shrewsbury did grab an equaliser, a couple of controversial short corners award to the home side, the last one scored by Shrewsbury’s attack. A tough one to take for Telford, having played the best hockey of their season but the game finishing 3-3.
Next week see’s Telford Men’s 3’s play their final home game of the season against 2nd from bottom Tamworth, after Wednesbury conceded their game from last week. Man of the Match deservedly went to Sahib Dhanjal, with DOTD going to Ben Edwards.
