Match Report

The Men’s 3rd team hosted a strong Beacon side at St Georges. Earlier in the season, Telford ran out 4-3 winners but knew it would not be an easy game. The squad included Alex Johnson and Raj Dhanjal back from injury, as well as regular 4th team goalkeeper Bradley Williams stepping up once again.
Telford had an early chance to go ahead, with Ben Stevens receiving the ball in the middle of the ‘D’, turning and shooting, but his shot was heading wide and stopped by a defender. However Beacon got the goal, before captain Chris Nightingale picked up a green card, not agreeing with the decisions given against his team. 1-0 was the half time score, and a difficult half for the hosts, with Williams producing some good save to keep the score down.
Telford started the second half a man down, with Nightingale picking up a yellow card, after protesting to the umpires in defence of his side. This lead to Telford conceding two goals early on. 3-0 down, morale was low, but chances were created through AJ and Luis Parker out wide, with Stevens also trying to break down the wings. The short corners they earned came to nothing, with Beacons runners closing down Telford options. Beacon eventually scored another 2 goals, despite the best efforts of Williams, who produced a great save off his foot into his own post to keep the score to 5.
A difficult game for the home side drops them to fourth in the league, after Beacon also won their Sunday game. Next week sees the team travel to promotion chasing Stone 2’s. MOM went to Glynn Summerhayes, who quietly gave a great display from midfield, creating plently of chances as well as some good defending. DOD went to Chris Nightingale, who now has more cards than Clintons!
