Match Report

Telford Men's 3s turned up to play Stafford 2s at the current site Chase Park, Cannock this weekend. A water based pitch which strangely is not currently being watered and also good vegetation growth is on the pitch. Any falling over may of required you a trip to A&E for a tetanus jab, and the playing kit placed on a boil wash on their own!
Stafford suffered a very heavy loss last week and with Telford rocking up with only 12 players, the Captain (not playing himself but coaching from the side) spoke of calm and comfort that the squad in front of him will breeze through to a win and 'go out and enjoy it boys'.......

1st half can only be described as goal scramble, goal scramble, goal scramble. no goals.
Play and passing was poor, bouncing balls being sent to payers and sometimes player marking responsibility was poor also. Full credit to Staffords keeper who manage to pick of some great saves during the game.
Stafford would catch us out with long arial balls, sometimes dangerous which seemingly each one thrown the umpires had about 10 versions of the rule by the end of the game. Mainly dependent on which team threw it it seemed! (Which pitch captain Billy took a small green card on behalf of the coach as the coach was doing a few too many windmill impressions with all his arm waving etc)

Half time talk was was a wake up call on how we are playing, Wake ourselves up on control, flat passing is needed and nothing blind. Keep attacking the goal, they will come!

Second half started with good pace, then Stafford from outside the 25 hit a raised ball into the crowded D, the ball still on it's upward trajectory got to a Stafford player who at shoulder height knocked the ball down and it went into the goal. Umpires happy with it - goal given!

Stafford grabbed a 2nd (real) goal five minutes later from good passing. Telford were 2-nil down!

Onto the last quarter of the game. Telford clearly miffed by being behind turned up the turbo charger and started making killer play from defence linking through midfield and up to the front. The game coming full on to Telford advantage, linking play, running for each other, strong tackles all working out and slowley the goals came.
Glyn got us going following by Owen, Roman and Matt finishing off

Game ended 4-2 and a good and well needed set of 3 points for the team. Well done boys, we took our time on this game, but we got there in the end!

MOM - Owen Shave
DOD - Ben Edwards (sulking when 2-nil down)

Next week is top of the table Barford Tigers 3s with no losses so far...
