Match Report

Telford 3's started their season with a home game against Leek 3. Leek were also promoted with the 3's last year, with this fixture last year being the only one Leek lost all year.  The team knew this would be a tough fixture but Captain Chris Nightingale encouraged the boys to keep positivity high during the match.

The first few minutes of the game were played inside the Leek half, as they quickly received a green card for dissent. This set the tone of the match, Telford pressing Leeks defence but unable to find a way through with their keeper playing a brilliant game. Even with the support of a few second team players (with pints in their hands) Telford couldn't find a way through in a first half where they deserved a goal and Leek not really threatening Dom in the Telford goal.

With the half time Haribo packs eaten, Telford set off looking to find that goal they deserved from the first half performance. After many short corners and great chances, Telford's breakthrough came when the ball was recycled to the back line. Chris N spotted a good run from Ben S, firing the ball into his path, with Ben throwing his stick behind him in hope of a touch. The faintest of touches (definitely inside of the 'D'!!!!!) moved the ball past his defender, and the keeper lifted his leg up to let the ball roll under his foot. 1-0 to Telford after Leek spent many minutes debating with the umpires whether the touch was inside the 'D' or not resulting in a 10 minutes yellow for one of their CB's.

Telford's second of the match came after a scrap in the 'D' led to Sahib finding Tommy Lauder who calmly slotted the ball home giving Telford a 2-0 lead! Many great chances came after this including Roman doing all the hard work to beat the keeper, just to take a reverse shot that hit the near post!

A scrappy end to the game saw Ben E receive a yellow card for a tackle on a Leek players ankles, and Tommy seeing green for a heated confrontation with the same Leek player. This lead to 2 minutes of 9v10 with every Telford player in our defending half. The boys held on to a well deserved win to start their season! MOTM went to Sammy Brazier, who silently produced a great display of quality which could have lead to many assists (if the forwards could score them!!). DOTD went to Ben E for his yellow card.

Next week, the 3's travel to Bloxwich 2's for their first away game of the season.
