Match Report

Telford 2s headed over to Derby to play Ramgarhia in the penultimate weekend of the season with the team facing a double header weekend. Telford were without Tom Jones but welcomed back Jon Cook into the team. Ramgarhia had only lost once at home to date this season so Telford knew they would be facing a difficult test, a 3-0 home win before Christmas not necessarily reflecting the tough nature of the game.

Telford however did not start at their best, turning the ball over too readily and too frequently with their opponents also looking to take advantage of some overly tentative defending. Midway through the half, the hosts took the lead, capitalising on some lapse Telford defending to go 1-0 ahead. As the half went on Telford grew into the game, finding their passing rhythm that has been the hallmark of their recent good performances. This led to a string of chances, a ball across the D just behind Owen Shave at the back post as well as a string of short corners that Telford were unable to convert, a drag flick from Will Lorenz well tipped over by the home keeper being the closest Telford came. That was until the very end of the half, Tom Bullock playing the ball into the D and finding Sean Huffer at the back post. Huffer took a touch before poking home his 19th goal of the season from close range to make it all square at the break.

Telford knew they were in for a physical game in the second half having contested some robust challenges in the first with the message to continue building on the progress seen in the latter stages of the half. Within two minutes of the restart Telford were in the lead. Winning another short corner, Owen Shave set up Matt Hadley-Moore who took the ball to his right before burying his effort past the Ramgarhia keeper into the backboard. The half thereafter was end to end, Ramgarhia guilty of missing some good chances, with man of the match Nathan Capes in goal making also some outstanding saves to keep Telford in front. The home keeper also making an incredible save to deny Jordan Keeble’s first-time effort that would have put the 3 points beyond doubt. As it was, Telford were able to display some game management going into the last few minutes, retaining possession to close the game out and secure a 2-1 win.

This was Telford’s 17th win from their 18 games played this season as they look to carry on their streak in their remaining two games – Finchfield 2s in a late Sunday game being their next challenge in a top of the table clash.
