Match Report

Telford 2s headed over to Droitwich for their rearranged game from the cold snap week with a 13 game winning streak in hand, looking to maintain their lead at the top of the table. Welcoming back Matt Hadley-Moore, Tom Bullock, Will Lorenz and Jordan Keeble, Telford were missing Lewis Moore and Sammy Brazier with Bradley Williams in for the absent Nathan Capes between the sticks.

Telford started quickly, Tom Jones having a strong shot saved by the keeper within the first 30 seconds of the game. This pressure was sustained with the Droitwich keeper making a number of good saves and an effort getting cleared off the line. Telford managed to break the deadlock 15 minutes in, a Sean Huffer reverse was saved by the keeper but fell to the returning Keeble on the right shoulder of the D who took a touch before striking the ball cleanly into the bottom left hand corner. Within minutes it was 2-0, Tom Jones showing good work to find Matt Hadley-Moore who cheekily chipped the ball on the reverse over the onrushing keeper into the far corner.

Telford knew at half time that they were in command of the game and the sheer number of chances showed there were goals there for the taking. The game was however getting scrappier and the message was to maintain composure and behaviour. Within 3 minutes of the restart Telford had their third. Last week’s hat trick hero and man of the match Jon Cook expertly turning in a powerfully slung Adam Phizacklea ball to the back post. Ten minutes later Matt Hadley-Moore found last week’s other hat trick man Owen Shave to make it 4-0 with a trademark back post tap in. With ten minutes to go, Telford scored their fifth, not wanting to be out done by Shave, Cook bagged his fifth goal in two games when he prodded the ball under the keeper from close range after being set up by Jones.

The end of the game descended into a scrappy affair but Telford were able to nullify any attacking forays from Droitwich with great performances by the whole backline, especially Matt Denver, maintaining his good run of form, as well as Luca Basini marshalling the middle brilliantly in a man of the match display as Telford made it 14 from 14.

Next week Telford travel for a late game away to University of Birmingham 5ths.
