Match Report

Telford 2’s travelled to what appears to be a struggling Edgbaston 3’s for this weeks fixture. Like much of the club, Telford travelled 16 strong with notable absentees in Tom W and Tom J - both were on the sideline to look to further Telfords 100% record so far this season.
The boys started strong with 2 early chances for match day captain Jon Cook which he saw saved by the Edgbaston keeper much to his frustration. Continuing to press, the deadlock was broken with some trademark stick skills from Matt Hadley-Moore who played the ball across the face of goal to an unmarked JC who finally got his goal! Confidence in the air and Telford continued to press with Ollie Brannen working himself into space to hit a reverse shot across the face of goal for a sideline ball. Confusion amongst the Edgbaston back line as to whether this was a sideline ball or a 16 meant a lively Ollie won the ball from a stagnant defender, rounded the keeper to finish from the angle much to the frustration of a clearly bemused Defence. The umpires discussed to confirm what was to be done, confirmed 2-0!
Continued confidence and possible over eagerness meant Telford were trying to do too much individually and this resulted in a mistake leading to a goal for Edgbaston 2-1. Telford did however manage to make it 3-1 just before half time when Ollie Brannen played a great through ball to Sean Huffer to finish well into the far corner.
The half time message was simple, play the basics, work the space and show what we can do!
Telford started the second half much better and more like their usual selves with Duffer getting his second of the day.
The Edgbaston keeper was peppered with shots who made some crucial saves to keep the score line lower than it could have been.. forcing the keeper to a save parrying the ball to the right of the D saw JC on an angle which historically would have seen a shot on goal, a call from the P spot saw John Perry get onto the score sheet and full control being resumed! MHM got the goal he’s been waiting for with a trademark run weaving through their defence to a top D reverse into the bottom corner!
Telford finished the game with a 6-1 victory which saw a slightly disappointed atmosphere as towards the end of the game saw team members more interested in their personal stats as oppose to the team shows further room for improvement for the team in working together!
This result sees Telford 2nd position in the league with a game in hand over first placed Finchfield 2nds.
A Saturday night special next week with the boys hosting University of Birmingham 5’s for a 4:30 pushback at St George’s.
