The Men’s 1st team hosted West Bridgford at St George’s for a 13:30 pushback. With captain Tom Gough unavailable, vice captain Callum Stacey stepped up to take the armband, with Jack Mallet, Liam Hennessy and Vince Richardson all returning to the squad.
Neither team dominated possession of the ball in the opening minutes of the game, with Telford carving out of great chances for the forwards, the best chance coming to Tom Mallet early on. Mallet won the ball just outside of the attacking 23, and drove into the ‘D’ but his reverse shot didn’t trouble the goalkeeper. Not long after, Mallet won a short corner for the hosts, which Stacey rifled into the top right corner of the goal for his 7th of the season.
The score remained at 1-0, with Telford defence working well as a unit to keep out West Bridgford’s strikers, even when Jack Mallet received a green card for a stick tackle late on in the half.
1-0 was the half time score, and a positive performance for the home side.
With some good chances and penalty corners for both teams, neither managed to put any away, with Telford holding onto their advantage in the second half, until a visiting striker produced a great run through the middle of the pitch, calmly slotting the ball past Neil Davies in the Telford goal. Callum Stacey also picked up a green card at the death of the game for a heavy challenge on a West Bridgford player.
1-1 was the final score, and a good result for Telford considering the heavy defeat they suffered earlier in the season. Next week the 1’s travel to 3rd placed Leek 1’s for another tough away fixture.
