Match Report

Telford’s men’s first team welcomed Loughborough students to a cold St Georges, which thanks to the group of volunteers who cleared the pitch Thursday night, was one of the few pitches to host games. The changes to Telford’s squad was Philip Bailey being brought in for Luke Stacey, and Dave Tracey returning after last weeks absense.

Callum Stacey made some big tackles early on, winning the ball of multiple players before trying to charge up the field. Chances came for both teams, including Ollie Brannan being played 1 on 1 with the opposing keeper, however a poor touch let him down, the ball running off the sideline. Loughborough briefly went down to 9 men, with two of their players receiving green cards closely together, however Telford failed to take advantage of this.

Even with the large support for the hosts, Telford couldn’t capitalise on any of the chances they created. Some great defending kept the visitors out, with Neil Davies having very little to do in Telford’s goal. Neither team were able to dominate the game and the half time score was 0-0.

Second half was soon underway, and Telford created more chances, winning the first penalty corners, but nothing was to come from any of them. Brannen picked up a green card for multiple bad tackles, but with Tom Mallett not seeing the card, ran on thinking Brannen was being subbed off, giving Telford a brief advantage with neither umpire noticing.

Much like in the first half, both teams couldn’t find that killer touch, with the best chance falling to Brannen, who stopped the ball in an open goal, giving the keeper time to react and knock clear for a long corner. The game finished in a 0-0 draw, with MOTM awarded to Tom McKittrick, putting in a great shift in the midfield. Next week sees Telford 1’s travel away to Hampton-in-Arden’s first team, who currently sit bottom of the league.
