Telford 1's Match Report

Telford & Wrekin Mens 1's welcomed Rugby & EW 1's to St George's for a 13:30 pushback. The 15 man squad that faced them only had one change from their last game, Tom McKittrick returning in the place of Vince Richardson. Telford were keen to change their form around after a tough loss in their last match.

The first few minutes of the game were end to end, with both teams struggling to hold off the ball. Telford got off the mark quickly after only 6 minutes, with Callum Stacey dispatching a drag flick off a short corner won by Will Gough. Stacey kept the score at 1-0, with 2 rugby players against him but keeping them out of the 25, before putting away his second goal of the game after another penalty corner.

Rugby soon made the score 2-1, with their own short corner being put into the bottom left corner of the Telford goal. After this goal, Rugby had the momentum of the game, forcing every Telford player inside their own 23. Cal Stacey had a chance for his hat trick, but his drag flick was too central, and it was Rugby who got their third, with another short corner. This time their drag flick was deflected off a stick, going the opposite way to Neil in goal.

The half time score was 2-3, but either side could easily take 3 points from this game.

It didn't take Telford long to get back into the game, with Tom Mallet dispatching another short corner, this time the drag flick going just above the back board. Telford then made the score 4-3, with Will Gough missing Cal Stacey's ariel. Noah sprinted to just keep the ball in play, finding T Mallet, whose stroke was deflected in by Dave Tracey on the back post.

Rugby made the scores level once again, after a scrap in the 'D'. Telford found themselves a man up, after a rugby player received a green card, before both teams found themselves a man down, with the same rugby player and Sam Mallet both getting yellow cards from the umpires. Once again, Telford found themselves leading the game, scoring another short corner with Tom Mallets drag rebounding off the keeper into the path of Liam Hennessy, who tapped the ball in to make it 5-4 to Telford.

Telford found themselves a man up again for a brief time, before Chris Heath got a yellow card for a bad tackle. During this time, Rugby got their 5th goal of the game, with a reserve shot finding its way past Neil. Captain Tom Gough was forced off just before the end, getting a head injury after the Rugby player's foot collided with his head. The game finished 5-5 with Telford happy to get a point against a tough opposition.
