Match Report

Telford had their first double header of the season with a home fixture against Finchfield 3’s, the reverse fixture became a fiesty affair and one that Telford wanted to nail home.

The game started with Telford not playing their usual style and it was Finchfield who looked the better team throughout the first half. The deadlock was broken through a short corner with Matt Hadley Moore finding the bottom corner with a trademark reverse strike. The lead didn’t appear to give Telford the much needed confidence that his helped them this season with sloppy play and mistakes ultimately paying dividends when Finchfield scored from a controversial short corner. The emphasis was on Telford to step it up and sort it out - within 2 minutes Telford regained their lead with a Tom Jones strike heading towards the back post being converted at close range by top scorer Jorge Hadley Moore. The 2nd half team talk from Captain and Coach was to step it up and play the game they can with the target of more goals, more passing and team play being the parting words!

Within minutes Telford extended their league with a lovely team goal with Ollie Brannen being on the end to net his 7th goal of the season and the 2’s weren’t done there - the new stick struck again with lovely passing finished off with a John Perry strike into the roof of the goal. The boys had their swing back with brilliant passages of play and another well worked team goal leaving Jorge with an empty net to slot his second of the game. Much of the second half was playing in the Finch’s half with chances still a miss but the overall play of the team was proving too much for the defence to deal with even with Telford receiving 2 harsh green cards putting them down to 10 men for spells - the 6th goal came from some brilliant play from Will Gough who rounded 2 defenders before driving to the baseline and playing a neat pass to an open Jon Cook on the P spot to net his 10th goal of the season. The intensity was kept up with chances however the simple pass was beginning to elude Telford again before the provider turned scorer Will Gough knocking in from inches after a Ollie Brannen attempt hit the post for Gough to knock in his 6th goal of his debut season with the 2’s.

The result leaves Telford 10 points clear of 2nd place with the prospect of a win away at Stone next week near enough ensuring the league for Telford 2’s.
