Match Report | Despite losing their final game of the season, the first XI finished fourth in the table and retained their position in the Midlands Feeder League for next season. The team were beaten 3 – 2 by Sutton Coldfield III’s who needed a win to avoid relegation. However, it was Telford who took the lead when a long ball from Sue Hughes was picked up by Chez Lane, who rounded the defender and fired the ball past the Sutton keeper. Sutton equalised through a well-crafted goal which left the teams level at the break. Telford edged into the lead in the second half when a reverse stick cross from Lane was slotted in on the back post by Lorna Burns. Sutton continued to battle hard and equalised through a short corner before taking the lead in the late stages of the game. Despite the loss, captain Shirley Hasenauer was pleased with the performance over the season stating ‘We didn’t take all our chances on Saturday, but played some good hockey. Overall, a fourth place finish in our first year back in the Midlands league is very satisfying and our aim is to build on this for next season’.
