Women's 1st XI Vs Uttoxeter

The first XI’s unbeaten league run came to an end at the weekend when they lost 5-2 in a top of the table clash against Uttoxeter.  A win would have seen the team leapfrog Uttoxeter to head the table.  Telford’s start to the match was far from ideal - having suffered traffic delays on the way to Uttoxeter, and with little time for a warm up, they found themselves 3-0 down within the first 10 minutes of the game after a wave of Uttoxeter attacks.   The home side created a number of other scoring opportunities in the remainder of the half, but the Telford defence held firm with Karen Jackson making a number of crucial tackles.  The second half saw them play with more belief and they started to put the Uttoxeter defence under pressure.  Goals from Lorna Burns and Jodie Lane were not enough to take any points from the game, as Uttoxeter also added a couple of goals to their tally in the second half.   It was a tough game, against a physical side.  With six regular first team members unavailable two youngsters , Grace Flynn and Holly Winterton, made their league debuts for the first XI and battled hard throughout the game.
