Match Report | The Men’s 1st XI travelled to Repton on Sunday to face a mixture of Reptons 1st and 2nd XI. From start to finish Repton were the dominant side but Telford defended well and conceded very few clear cut chances and were dangerous on the counter attack. Telford took the lead in this manor after some good work from Tom Mallet who’s effort on goal was deflected and trickled into the corner. Repton equalised after a defensive mistake from Vince Richardson but Telford retook the lead shortly after when Liam Hennessy finished from a narrow angle from a short corner rebound. HT 2-1
Repton pressed during the second half from start to finish and equalised with a penalty stroke. Telford defended well throughout the half after being under constant pressure, and was a good test of their defensive concentration and discipline. Neil Davies made several good saves to keep the score line at 2-2. Telford had the chance to win the game in the final minute as Liam Hennessy and Tom Gough linked well to get to Repton’s baseline, his ball across the ‘D’ could not be converted and it was honours even at full time. A highly competitive match and a very good test for Telford who start their league fixtures next weekend against Harborne.
