Match Report

Telford 2XI kicked off their pre-season schedule with a visit from Old Wulfs 1XI. With a makeshift backline and some new players making their debuts, this would be a test against one of the stronger teams in the 2nds regular league for the coming season. Some rustiness was evident during the opening exchanges with most of the game being played in Telford's half while limiting Old Wulfs to few major chances. The breakthrough came for Old Wulfs though when a ball into the D took a ricochet before rebounding off the post and falling kindly for Old Wulfs to tap home from inches out with nothing goalkeeper Nathan Capes could do. As the half went on Telford grew into the game and started to play more of the hockey they knew they were capable of with both Lewis Moore and Ollie Brannen going close. Jon Cook was left wishing he'd bought a stick an inch longer when he was unable to tap home a ball pinged across the face of goal shortly before half time. A tactical shift at the break put Telford more on the front foot for the second half. A well contested game with plenty of effort put in by both teams as the temperature and energy levels ramped up a notch. The equalizer eventually came mid way through the half with good play by Will Gough on the right hand side, switching the play out left. Nice interplay down the left hand side resulted in Lewis Moore squaring the ball from the baseline for John Perry to poke home from close range in what was a beautifully worked goal. Telford kept pressing with a stop on the line with the keeper beaten being the only thing keeping Ben Edwards from a debut goal. A good performance from the Old Wulfs goalkeeper also denied Ollie Brannen a goal after great work on more than one occasion. While Old Wulfs did put the ball in the goal with the last touch of the game, it was rightly ruled out for a massive backstick in the build up meaning Telford got the draw their performance had at least deserved. With plenty of positives to build on, Telford look to take on Bridgnorth in their next pre-season friendly.
