Match Report

Telford 3's traveled to Wolverhampton and Tettenhall 2's with promotion on the line. 3 big points today would be enough to guarantee Telford moving up a league. The 15 man squad included Ben Rollet, returning from a hamstring injury, as well as captain Chris Nightingale returning to the squad.

The game started with Telford almost scoring before Wolverhampton even touching the ball!! Telford kept the ball at the back from the push, before the move started. Slick passing and good movement from the midfield and forwards meant the ball came to Ben Stevens who hit the ball just high past the post. Telford kept a strong press and making chances.

The first goal of the game came when Telford won a short corner. Stewart Riddle stepped up to receive the ball at the top of the 'D' and let the number 1 runner come towards him, before turning and putting a reverse shot past the keeper! 1-0 Telford!!

Telford kept working hard in the heat of the sun, with many questionable umpiring decisions going against the team, but Telford managed to keep the score to 1-0 at half
time. Captain Chris encouraged the team to keep working hard and not let Wolverhampton back into the game.

The second half started with Telford's high press by the forwards forcing Wolverhampton into mistakes. Telford created multiple chances but struggled to put the ball past the keeper. Telford's second goal did come after relentless work. The umpires gave a free hit, which was taken quickly, but Ollie Firmstone capitalised on confusion between Wolverhampton's players and the umpire - who let Telford play on. Ollie passed the ball around a keeper rushing off his line, which Ben Stevens slotted into the corner to make the score 2-0 to Telford!!

Telford's 3rd came soon after, with another short being won by Telford's wide midfielders. This time it was Ben Rollet who stepped up, collecting the ball at the top before slapping the ball home to all but secure three points for Telford. The team knew however the game could turn around quickly. Defensive resilience however kept the ball out of Telford's goal, as well as big saves from Dom in goal. With 8 minutes left on the clock, Chris got his kit on and return to the field after being out for 8 weeks with a broken finger.

Telford held on to the final whistle, running out 3-0 winners, but securing those important three points which guaranteed promotion for the team!!

The last game of the season sees Telford welcome Bridgnorth to St. George's next week.
