Men's 2nd XI Vs Bloxwich 2

The final game of what has been a season to remember for Telford 2’s saw them travel to a typically challenging Bloxwich who in recent weeks have become a force to be reckoned with.  The message was simple from the captain - go out there, enjoy yourself and play good hockey and that is exactly what Telford did with a high press from the off with chance after chance being created until 6 minutes in the deadlock was broken with Will Gough causing havoc down the left hand side dribbling past 3 players before playing a ball into the D where a deflection from Tom Jones saw an unmarked Jon Cook to a reverse stick finish and his 11th goal of the season. The second goal was immediate with a through ball played to Lewis Moore who drew the keeper out to play it to the right for Matt Denver to tap home from a yard away. The arrival of both Hadley Moore brothers who decided they fancied a game in Stoke as opposed to Wolverhampton saw Telford add even more creativity to the side. Ollie Brannen scored his 11th of the season with a well taken solo effort beating 2 Bloxwich defenders at the baseline to beat the Keeper at his near post.  Telford continued to dominate into half time with Tom Jones rounding the first half off with Telford going 4-0 up at half time. Morale was high and despite a shaky final 5 minutes of the half the boys were in control of this game. 

The team talk was to continue and not let silly mistakes result in goals for the opposition … 2 minutes into the second half and a smash through ball found the Bloxwich forward who put it through the keepers legs from 2 yards and this spurred Bloxwich on with them scoring a further goal to make it 4-2 … a substitution bought Tom Jones back onto the pitch who with his returning first touch smashed the ball in from a short corner to get his second of the game. Bloxwich continued to press and found a further short range finish late on with confusion in the Telford side following substitutions leaving only 1 defender to 4 attackers.

This game marked the final game for a few of the 2’s players with Nathan Capes, Henry Whitwood , Lewis Moore and Jorge Hadley Moore going  onto University and other ventures respectively. They will be missed and as a team and a club we wish them all the best and hope too see them all sooner rather than later!
