Match Report

An opportunity squandered with the 2nd XI playing away to Stone for a chance to seal promotion.
With 3 points needed, the 2nds needed to come into this game with cool heads when facing a Stone team that has proven tough to break down in the past. Unfortunately,  this was not to be with a number of players missing, with Dom stepping in for the absent Nathan, as well as a last minute dropout leaving everyone on the wrong foot.
Despite this Telford started off strong with an early short being converted by JP. This would turn out, however, to be their only luck in front of goal for a while with a number of one on one chances being wasted. This lack of finishing drove the opposition to create chances of their own, converting a short corner, a penalty stroke and a run of play that caught Telford on the back foot. Telford managed to reduce the deficit going into half time with a penalty stroke of their own, put away by JP.
Despite an empassioned team talk, Telford didn't start the second half with any energy resulting in two early goals from the opposition.
Telford made an effort to salvage a point from the day and started to play the hockey that has put them in their current position, pulling back two goals from Ollie B and Tom W. However, this was not enough to get them across the line.
What should have been a celebratory occasion ended in disappointment for Telford, the game ending 5-4 to Stone
Telford are going to have to take a hard look at themselves if they hope to secure the necessary points against a difficult Wednesbury team next week
