Match Report

Telford 2s started their weekend off early with 11:30 pushback against Finchfield 2’s - this was the top of the table clash from earlier this season. Following last weekends blip into their so far outstanding season Telford we’re at it from the off. A change of formation saw structural changes and these were evident in the first 20 minutes with Finchfield hardly getting a chance to get out of their own half with some fantastic all round play from Telford. The deadlock was broken from a short corner with John Perry’s straight strike being saved only for MHM to follow in on the rebound to make it a deserving 1-0 going into the second half. Consistency was the key message at half time from Captain Tom Williams, we play our game and we get the results and the entire team wanted the 3 points! 5 minutes into the second half… 2-0! Brilliant build up play along the Finchfield baseline from Lewis Moore with a pass into the D where a well placed effort from Jon Cook saw Telford double their lead and the momentum was clearly with them. Telford controlled the game with resilient defensive work all round from the defence however Henry’ The Terrier’ Whitwood shone and all bar one misplaced pass did not put a foot wrong and won all his battles! The goals kept coming with TJ dribbling around 3 Finchfield players before a no look drop pass to JC who fired the ball to the back post where JHM was in the right place at the right time to make it 3-0. The opposition were not happy at this point and Telford knew they could get more, Tom Jones finally got onto the score sheet to make it a great performance from the forward with this goal to add further momentum for this Telford team ! This result sees Telford 5 points clear of 3rd and depending on results elsewhere could be back to the top of the table. Next week see the boys travel to a struggling Market Drayton where the team will be looking for the 3 points but also looking to keep their momentum going into the winter closure.
