Telford and Wrekin Men’s 1st XI faced top of the league Stourport on Saturday after last weekend’s fixture Vs Warwick was cancelled due to Covid.

Similarly to the return fixture Telford were slow out of the blocks allowing Stourport to build themselves a lead. After a ghost goal for Stourport was overturned the hosts scored seconds later to make the score line 1-0.

After a superb aerial pass into the ‘D’ was not dealt with by Telford it was 2-0 and a drag flick made it 3-0 minutes later. To top off a horror first half Stourport made it 4-0 on the stroke of half-time giving Telford a serious uphill task going into the second half.

Halftime came and Suchy challenged the lads to put in a performance that they would be proud of and show that they are one of the best teams in the league.

Telford responded well and were much better in possession of the ball and started to ask more questions of the Stourport defence.

Callum Stacey got Telford their first goal of the contest with drag flick into the bottom left corner of the goal. Minutes later Telford had their second with Dave Tracey’s shot rebounding to Tom Mallett who finished with a reverse strike into the empty net.

Telford continued to push for another goal, but this left them open to Stourport’s range of passing and counterattack. 4-2 became 5-2 with another drag flick from Stourport’s new signing which put the game beyond reach for Telford.

Stacey got his second of the game and Telford’s 3rd with the best drag flick of the day. With the keeper flapping to his left and the postman ducking for cover as his flick hit the top right corner.

Stourport took the 3 points but a much better second half showing from Telford gives them confidence heading into next weekend’s fixture against 4th placed Worcester.
