The Men’s 1st XI continued their 100% winning start to the season by beating North Staffs 1st team at home 8-2. The team was unchanged from last week, except Luca Basini coming in for AJ who is injured, meaning Vice Captain Tom Gough took the armband.

Telford got off to the perfect start when Noah Higginson scored off the rebound of Tom Mallett’s shot on goal. Creator became goal scorer for Telford’s second goal with an excellent drag flick. Mallett had his second soon after with another drag flick giving Telford an early three goal advantage.

After a perfect start to the game Telford took their foot off the gas in the final 10 minutes of the half and conceded a sloppy goal, giving North Staffs a sniff going into the second half. The hosts put any nerves to bed in the first minute of the second half as Man of the Match Tom Mallett completed his Hat-Trick with a sublime reverse stick strike.

With Telford going down to 10 men, North Staffs kept themselves in the game after scoring a simple tap in. Despite the setback, Telford put the game to bed scoring 4 more goals and dominating possession.

Cal Stacey got himself on the scoresheet with an unsavable drag flick leaving the left post man jumping out of the way. Having kept the ball for several minutes Liam Hennessey punched through the North Staffs defence with some intricate passing, Cal Nightingale finished off the superb team goal to make the score 6-2.

Forward Dave Tracey got in on the act from a short corner, his strike went like a missile into the bottom right corner to bring his tally to three for the season. Goalscoring midfielder Sam Mallett finished off the party by doubling his tally for the season with a trademark reverse shot.

The 8-2 victory takes Telford into 2nd behind leaders Stourport who the hosts take on in 2 weeks’ time at St George’s. Next weekend sees Telford travel to Warwick who have drawn both games so far this season.
