Match Report

Telford ladies 2s kicked of the first game of the season against Bloxwich Ladies 2s with some great hockey and superb teamwork.

From the start, Telford dominated and took the lead early on, with well-worked goal finished off by Alexia Day to slot home her first senior league goal.  Telford continued  to dominate the game and were rewarded with a penalty corner, which was clinically put away by the new Captain Sue Hughes. Telford’s dominance did not give Bloxwich anytime to settle on the ball and the relentless pressure created another penalty corner opportunity, which Sue Hughes took and slotted her second goal in from a clean straight strike. Telford continued to play attacking and patient hockey and just before the interval, Rachel Evans set up Alexia Day to score her second.
After the interval, Telford with a comfortable 4-0 lead continued to play patient and expansive hockey with ball retention and transfers being used purposefully to tire the opposition. Telford capitalized on this with Shirley Hasenauer setting up Alexia Day for  her hat trick goal. This seemed to open the flood gates and in quick succession Bay Maddox, scored her first goal to take the score to 6-0 with 12 minutes to go. Telford were completely in control and chances were in abundance. Bloxwich battled hard but couldn’t contain Telford, who went onto to score two more goals through Christine Keyser and just to finish off her goal scoring spree Alexia Day set up by Sue Hughes bagged her fourth goal  and also not surprisingly notched up the ‘man of the match’ award. Bloxwich, even though they were well beaten,  never gave up the fight and scored a consolation goal for the game to finish 8-1 victory to Telford.

Telford play Leek next week away a 11:30 start at Leek High School.
