Match Report | Telford & Wrekin Women’s 1s increased their winning streak to six on the bounce thanks to a 4-3 win away at Leicester City 2s. In a hard fought game Telford opened the scoring thanks to Kathryn Sinclair penalty corner mid way through the first half. Both teams exchanged chances but Telford took their 1-0 lead into the half time break. Leicester equalised early on in the second half but Telford quickly responded when Izzy Moore scored, quickly followed by a Chez Lane finish to give Telford a 3-1 lead. Leicester took advantage of a Telford yellow card to reduce the deficit to 3-2 & piled on the pressure to force an equaliser minutes later. As both teams pushed for a winner, Telford’s captain Jodie Lane broke into the Leicester circle & dispatched a rocket into the bottom left hand corner to retake the lead 4-3. A late Leicester drag flick was plucked from the corner by Telford goalkeeper Charlotte Eyre & the defence held firm to see out victory. A tough away game but a result which shows the resilience of the Telford squad as they continue their push up the league table. |
